🖤 Coach Daymond | Founder of Black Brand Blog Title: “Why We Must Rally Behind Black-Owned Social Media Platforms — Before It’s Too Late.”
Every era has its battleground — and for us, this one is digital.
Right now, we’re living in a time where algorithms shape narratives, platforms profit from our creativity, and history gets rewritten with every scroll. And while the world may applaud Black culture — the rhythm, the style, the language, the genius — there’s an alarming trend to erase, misrepresent, or dilute the very origin of it all.
That’s why I’m raising my voice — as the Founder of Black Brand and as someone deeply committed to our creative sovereignty — to say this:
We must promote, support, and preserve awareness around Black-owned social media platforms.
These platforms aren’t just apps — they’re digital ecosystems of our culture, memory, and power.
⚫ Why This Moment Matters
There’s a global push to distort and neutralize the influence of Black culture — from music to language, fashion to tech innovation. History has shown us that when we create something groundbreaking, it often gets repackaged under another name, another face, another narrative.
But what happens when the platforms themselves — the very digital stages where we share our truth — are no longer ours?
That’s the danger we face.
Black-owned social media apps are the counterbalance to that erasure. They’re modern-day archives of cultural integrity. They reflect who we are, not how someone else decides to portray us.
✊🏾 Black-Owned Platforms You Should Know (and Support)
Fanbase – Founded by Isaac Hayes III, Fanbase empowers creators to monetize their content directly — no middleman, no exploitation. This is the creator economy done right, with the community in mind.
Spill – Built by former Twitter employees Alphonzo “Phonz” Terrell and DeVaris Brown, Spill is shaping a safe, culturally aware space that uplifts Black and queer voices. It’s not just a platform — it’s a movement for digital dignity.
BlackPlanet – The OG of online Black communities. For years, it’s been a hub for networking, socializing, and building connections before “social media” was even a term.
BLK & BlackCupid – These dating apps remind us that Black love, connection, and community matter. They center our joy, our beauty, and our shared experience.
Melanin People – A dynamic platform that unites the global Black diaspora, offering short-form videos, business networking, and an e-commerce marketplace.
The Cookout – Exclusive, intentional, and protective — The Cookout is that safe space where Black thought, creativity, and business can flourish without censorship.
- Be You Social – Founded by Shomari King, this multipurpose app merges content creation, podcasting, and commerce into one digital space for unapologetic expression.
- BEAN (Black Economic Advancement Network) – A networking powerhouse connecting Black professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders — pushing the culture forward economically and collaboratively.
🌍 My Belief: Moral Consciousness in a Digital World
I genuinely believe these platforms have something that many others don’t: a moral compass.
They understand our collective responsibility — to tell the truth, to uplift each other, and to maintain cultural integrity in a digital world that too often exploits it.
These Black-owned platforms aren’t just alternatives; they’re anchors — keeping us rooted in authenticity while allowing us to innovate freely.
💡 The Call to Action
This isn’t about exclusion. It’s about preservation, elevation, and participation.
We’ve spent decades building platforms we don’t own.
Now is the time to build equity in the platforms that see us, know us, and honor us.
Let’s amplify them. Let’s join them. Let’s invest in them.
Because when we control the narrative, we control the future.
And as far as I’m concerned — the future of Black digital excellence depends on what we choose to support right now.
🖤 Stay conscious. Stay connected. Stay creative.
